After The Last of Us HBO Is Adapting Baldurs Gate 3 for TV With Craig Mazin as Creator
HEAD HBO is focusing its attention on a drama television series based on Larian Studios’ hit RPG, Baldur’s Gate 3 after adapting Sony’d TV show The Last of Us. Craig Mazin is said to be the co-creator of HBO’s The Last of Us, which will reportedly lead the show. In contrast to the TV show The Last of Us, which was co-produced by Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann, Larian will not be involved in Baldur’S Gate 3 adaptation.
The new adaptation is being produced, by Mazin — who previously co-created hit HBO drama Chernobyl — to create and write the show’s first incarnation, executive produce and showrun, according to a report published Thursday in Deadline.
The report said the story of Game of the Year-winning RPG from Larian will continue on the Baldur’s Gate TV show, which was set just after the game had been played. In Baldur’s Gate 3 it will feature characters from its own book, addressing the aftermath of the game ending.
According to the report, Mazin is “an avid fan of Dungeons & Dragon’S” and long-time fan on which Baldur’s Gate 3 is based on. He allegedly worked nearly 1,000 hours in the RPG, says he has spent almost 1,000. The opportunity to adapt the game for TV was a ‘dream come true’, Mazin said.
D&D fans are a fan of the song “I am very fond of it” and how Swen Vincke and his talented team adapted it to its own style. I can’t wait until we bring Baldur’s Gate and all of its amazing characters to life with the respect and love that we have, and thank Gabe Marano and his team at Hasbro for trusting me with this very important property,” the showrunner said.

Larian Studios Not Involved With Show
The game’s HBO adaptation does not involve Larian Studios, the intellectual property rights of Wizards of the Coast and its HBO version. After Deadline report, The Game Awards creator Geoff Keighley confirmed Larian was not associated with the project after he said Larius had been unrelated to the show.
Larian CEO Swen Vincke said he was “eager” to see the direction the show takes.
A story that began in a small hotel conference room eventually became ‘an inspiring story enough to become HBO series,’ Vincke said on X Friday.
He said ‘We worked hard to make Baldur’s Gate 3 worthy of its legacy. I think it’s the result of its characters and stories that many teams are collaborating, and I can speak for each team to say “They will be cool” and hope that what comes next will have the same passion.
BG3 was made to be the narrative ground for new adventures, with its endings being “The ends of a ” and were thus designed as ‘scriptural soil’. They can take many of the steps that s might take, too. Would like to know who Craig will pick and his team will be with me if I’m interested in s. A chat with him is so we’ll get to know what we think about him. Paraphrast.
Baldur’s Gate 3 was released in 2023 to widespread critical praise. The D&D RPG won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2023 and is one of best games ever played, winning Game Of The game.
