BSNL Reportedly Begins CNAP Integration; Nationwide Caller ID Rollout Expected Soon

It is said Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is attempting to add the CNAP(Caller Name Presentation) feature for its users. In India, private telecom companies have already implemented it for their subscribers; and the state-run telecom operator is likely to launch it nationwide soon. This solution BSNL is said to have already been deployed by the . CNAP is an initiative by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) that allows users to see the name of the caller when they receive a call. Users are probably able to make intelligent choices in this feature before answering calls.

BSNL to Integrate CNAP in Zone-Wise Manner

In an ETTelecom report, BSNL “is now testing the integration of its CNAP service with private telecom operators” (as reported by The Telegraph Times Times). One industry source close to the subject said in a statement that “Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) have done it for the first time.” It has already been deployed for BSNL, and now the zone-wise integration is being implemented.

The executive reportedly said that after the integration, BSNL will “launch” CNAP nationwide in three to four months. It is said the executive reportedly added that this solution was developed and implemented by the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT) for the public sector operator.

TRAI introduced CNAP in the second half of 2025, which was phased out. The feature was trial run by Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on both 4G and 5G networks. Feature phones do not have the feature to block spam calls, which was designed to curb it.

In the CNAP service, it displays the names of unknown callers on the phone without having to pay an additional subscription fee. There’s no Internet connection, no apps like Truecaller or any app that does not require access to the service. This allows KYC-verified subscriber details to show the name of the caller in its feature.

The caller and receiver are part of the same network, so CNAP service is working well now. Nevertheless, operators are still said to be working on issues related to cross-network compatibility of the feature.
