Resident Evil 9 New Gameplay Revealed

Capcom had touted Resident Evil 9 as plunging viewers into “addictive fear” in the words of Director Koshi Nakanishi in his revealing ‘Creator’s Message’ at the Capcom Spotlight. Such a half-glimpse placed the viewers into a first-person nightmare with protagonist Grace Ashcroft. The views showed her lighter’s frail flame cast competing shadows as she groped through claustrophobic darkness. With gun raised high, she wandered through a foreboding manor, each step uncertain about what horrors awaited.

Nakanishi revealed that even if they considered dusting off Resident Evil icon Leon S. Kennedy, last seen fighting bio-weapons in Resident Evil 6, they chose instead to forge new territory with a new protagonist.

“Leon Kennedy, an unflappable hero. Imagine a horror game accidentally built around him. That was our primary thought, but Leon… Leon is not disturbed at a shadow. He is not shy of a rogue bucket clattering somewhere in the dark. What horror can there be for a protagonist who too well stands the fear? It may seem that the very traits that make him an extraordinary action hero make him the worst candidate for a truly terrifying experience. He’s too much of a brave man.”

Resident Evil: Requiem is not just bringing the scares back; it’s also wondering how you want to face them. Switch smoothly back and forth between the claustrophobic first-person view, chillingly setting the terror down deep in your soul, and the third-person camera, cooling off your hands by pressing the action against the ghettos of zombies. Producer Masato Kumazawa promises an up-close and personal “tense and realistic” experience, but when there’s no ammo left, a step back to unleash hell on them is the way to go. View and survive.

“We saw a fascinating split in player preference,” Kumazawa said, excitement lacing his voice. “The passionate followers stand firmly on either side of the line: Either heart-stopping intimacy in first-person or strategic third-person overview. So, forResident Evil 9, we asked ourselves, ‘Why choose?’We’re going for both. This wasn’t about forming sides-it was really about bringing the entire Resident Evil family under one horrific roof.”

The shadows of a chilling mystery beckon once more into Racoon City, awaiting an answer from its lone investigator. Hold on tight for enter Resident Evil 9, where you will imbue the character of FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, whose name strikes awe (and an occasional shudder) into the heart of many. After several years from the nightmare coming to an apparent close, Grace finds herself trudging back into the infected core of Racoon City after a series of bizarre murders that evade all attempts at explanation. Do not think zombies anymore because ominous-things-worse-is-watching from the shadows.

Put that date in your calendars: February 27, 2026. The terror lands on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.
