Far Cry 3 Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon and Far Cry Primal Getting 60 FPS Patch on Current-Gen Consoles
The current-generation consoles are receiving a 60fps patch for three older Far Cry games. In a statement, Ubisoft confirmed that the 60fps update on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X is being issued for January 21 with Far Cry 3, Far Fry 3 Blood Dragon and FarCry Primal. It released a 60fps patch for Far Cry 4 on current-gen consoles last year, which was previously announced as being the first time in its history to update.
Three Far Cry Games Get 60 FPS Patch
Ubisoft confirmed it was updating the three Far Cry games on modern platforms in a post on X Monday.
In a cryptic post, the company teased the 60fps update for the first time, before saying that Far Cry 3, Blood Dragon and Far Fry Primal will be given ‘an upgrade on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X’.
The 60fps patch will be available on January 21 to Far Cry 3 and Blood Dragon. Ubisoft also posted gameplay clips from the two titles at 60fps. Ubisoft has not confirmed the release date for the 60fps patch for Far Cry Primal, but it will likely be updated the same day as the other two FarCry titles.
From January 2, PS5 and Xbox Series S/X users will be able to play the games at a smooth, 60fps frame rate starting with PlayStation5. Another good thing is that Far Cry 3, Blood Dragon, and Primal are free on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X as part of the Ubisoft+ Classics collection bundled with PS Plus Extra/Deluxe and Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions.
Ubisoft isn’t the first time that a 60fps patch for older Far Cry games has been released. A 60fps update on current-gen consoles was issued to Far Cry 4 in April 2025. In contrast, Far Cry 5 on the other hand received a 60fps patch for PS5 and Xbox Series S/X in March 2023.
All Far Cry 3 and later games in the franchise will be 60fps on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X starting January 21 with the latest update.
In 2012 Far Cry 3 was a commercial and critical success for Ubisoft, which launched in 2012 as Far cry 3. The slammer was also the first-person shooter, setting out an example for future franchise titles and open world games in general. A standalone expansion for Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon, a 2013 version of Far cry 3, was released in 2013. The following is far cry 4 (2014), Far Cry Primal, a spinoff title set during prehistoric times, was issued in 2016.
Far Cry 6, the last mainline game of far cry, was released in 2021. The franchise’s next game in the franchise has not been announced by Ubisoft, which is preparing for its next match. However, the company confirmed last year that it was laying down productions of its ‘biggest production’ to allow for more development time and create “best conditions for success”.
Ubisoft launched Vantage Studios, a Tencent-backed subsidiary that now operates the company’s three largest franchises Assassin’S Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six in October 2025.
