Google Launches UCP Protocol Designed to Enable Direct Purchases Within Google Search
In a new AI shopping tool, Google is adding more tools that allow users to buy products directly through Google Search. A new technology giant has launched the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), an open system that supports the entire shopping process, from a product to buying it and then being helped. With companies like Shopify, Wayfair, Target and Walmart being a part of Google’s effort to create UCP, Google created the product. In a new framework, shoppers will soon be able to directly search Google product listings in AI Mode on Search and the Gemini app while browsing through this framework.
Google Developed UCP Protocol With Shopify, Target, Walmart
Google announced its UCP protocol, which is designed to support shopping through Search and AI tools, in a blog post. In a system that allows digital agents, businesses and payment providers to work together, UCP creates unified system. It’s a cross-field and supports current protocols such as Agent2Agent (A2 A) agent Payments Protocol (AP2) and Model Context Protocol(MCP).
It’s backed by more than 20 others, including Visa, Mastercard and Flipkart as well as Best Buy with companies like Shopify, Etsy, Wayfair (and Walmart), and Google co-developed the UCP for itself.
UCP will launch a new checkout in AI Mode in Search and the Gemini app at launch. Users in the US will be able to purchase items directly from Google Listings using Google Pay, which uses payment methods and shipping details already saved in Google Wallet. It’s soon to add support for payments through PayPal.
The move by Google is aiming to expand the UCP internationally with more retailers and add features such as loyalty rewards, related product suggestions and customised shopping experiences.
The business model, which will be a virtual sales associate for Google’s Business Agent, is also being launched. Initially with companies such as Lowe’s, Michaelson and Poshmark and ReEbok, it will be available.
The firm said it is still testing ads in AI Mode with a new feature called Direct Offers. In this pilot program, advertisers are able to show special deals directly in AI Mode for shoppers who are ready to buy something. e and is working with brands like Petco,. L l F f The retailers of Cosmetics, Samsonite, Rugs USA and Shopify developed Direct Offers to target shoppers.
