iQOO 15R Review: Maximum Speed Minimum Compromise
The disruptor has always been a comfortable role for iQOO, who played the disrupter for an brand that established its reputation on the “performance-first” formula. This strategy has been in the years, where it’s not just to match the flagships but to cut them by focusing on raw power while trimming elsewhere. The latest version of this approach is the formula for “R” series, a calculated attempt to preserve core internals of ‘an near-premium smartphone’ while making sensible compromises to keep price in check. OnePlus has been following this path, and now iQOO is taking the same philosophy with the new eQO 15R.
at a starting price of Rs. The iQOO 15R, 44,999 in India, is dedicated to providing flagship-quality performance and endurance without the price tag. After a few hours of reading it, I’m sure that it is enough to shake up the sub-Rs. , 50,000 segment of the phrase “Mahma’s” is about to be true. Why? I’ll explain in my review.

iQOO 15R Design: Appealing, Not Flashy
- Dimensions – 157.61 x 74.42 x 7.90mm
- Weight – 206 grams (Triumph Silver)
- Durability – IP68 + IP69
It is a brand-specific design language, which has been developed since the 15th century (i.e., as it was known to be called “IQOO”) and packs this into ‘a much more compact form factor of its own name; some subtle flourishes give it personality with an added twist that gives it hints of character in addition to several small forms.” This is made by a glass-and-metal sandwich construction that gives the phone an extra weight, and ‘high quality in hand feel’. It has a phone that is 7 inches in diameter. The scales are reasonably slim, since it is 9mm thick and tips the scale at 206g (more about that later) because it has a very large battery.

The phone sits naturally in the palm without digging into it, and its edges are slightly rounded. A rounded-square module is placed inside the top left corner of a camera island, which s say. The handset is a slightly raised but well-balanced variant of the general design, without looking bulky like it’s being designed by .
Two colourways are available for the iQOO 15R dark knight, and Triumph silver. It is arguably the most interesting of the two finishes I have, and that’s probably the more eye-catching option for s. It also has a glass back, and fibreglass in the Dark Knight shade. Unlike other s, iQOO has placed a pixel-like checkered pattern across the rear panel (which is noticeable when light reflect off at certain angles).

Not too flashy, it gives the phone a slightly playful identity as opposed to the finishes we see (very understated or ostentatious).
While iQOO 15R does not have IP69K rating of its rival’s OnePlus, the IP68 + IP39 certification should be more than enough protection against everyday accidents on the durability front.
iQOO 15R Display: Built for Speed
- Size and resolution – 6.59-inch 1.5K LTPS AMOLED, 1,260×2,750 pixels
- Refresh rate – 144Hz
- Protection – NA
In the iQOO 15R, there is 6 s. 59 inch AMOLED 1-inch screen with . A 5K resolution and 144Hz refresh rate are the best display you’d like from a performance-focused smartphone. This display produces vibrant colours, deep black levels and sharp text in everyday use. I’m happy all around watching movies and shows, especially those that support HDR.
The high refresh rate adds an extra layer of smoothness when navigating the interface, while scrolling through apps is also extremely fluid.

More notable is the bezels, or perhaps the lack thereof of ? And they are very short, notably uniform and most importantly even homogeneous. The company’s re-cutting of the bottom chin to almost match top and side borders has given the phone a clean, all-screen look that rivals much more expensive flagships.
I liked the flat display, another thing that I like most about . In contrast to curved panels, the flatness of the screen makes it easier for accidental touches during gaming or typing. That’s just a little bit of information, but one I think helps make it useful in everyday life. The ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is placed at a comfortable height, so that the thumb rest naturally and unlock the handset quickly.
iQOO 15R Performance and Software: Every Bit of Impressive
- Processor – Snapdragon 8 Gen 5
- Memory – Up to 12GB LPDDR5x (RAM), Up to 512GB UFS 4.1 (storage)
- OS – Android 16-based OriginOS 6
- Updates Promised – 4 Years OS + 6 Years Security Patches
It is arguably the strongest strength of performance in an iQOO 15R, perhaps best known for its performance. This is a time when smartphone makers are struggling to source memory components for it, which has launched its first wave of the phrase. The Bill of Materials (BoM) is being driven up by this, and brands have a good choice increase the cost or compromise on specification; leave them with two options. But thankfully, this is what distinguishes the iQOO 15R from its segment in which it has been introduced.

The hood-mounted Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset is also the key rival of it’s main rival, the OnePlus 15R. In everyday use, the phone flies through everything you can throw at it and rarely feels stressed. The resulting slowdown is not noticed, and it does not mean that opening apps, switching between multiple tasks or rapid jumping between social media, messaging and streaming apps.
Even with a dozen apps sitting in the background, the UI stays snappy, and the animations don’t lag.

The iQOO 15R feels most at home at gaming, in contrast, clearly where the ‘gamer’ is playing. My BGMI was playing for some time “Smooth” graphics and “Extreme” frame rates, but the 15R didn’t make any sense. Despite hot drops and final circles, it kept frame rates consistently high. Another example of this was Call of Duty Mobile; it handled “Very High” graphics and “Max” frame rates with low noticeable drops.
A Genshin Impact player, however, you’ll probably prefer to stick with Medium or High settings for the perfect balance between visuals and stability; but a phone still plays the game better than most sub-Rs. 50,000 phones, 50000. I noticed some heat around the top half of the rear panel after about 30 minutes long sustained gameplay but it never got too hot.

iQOO 15R runs on Android 16-based OriginOS 6 (fast and visually polished) OS front. I wrote a review of it in detail on the topic for my iQOO 15 and that the 15R has similar story. You can read more about it here. Ultimately, the user interface uses smooth animations and subtle transitions that complement the handset’s high-refresh rate display.
But, that said, “In OriginOS still ships with a few pre-installed apps you may want to remove,” Block Blast is one of the most common culprits. But thankfully, you can easily uninstall most of them (a lot) from . In addition, the iQOO 15 will be given four major Android OS updates and six years of security patches (excellent) that should keep the phone usable for years to come.
iQOO 15R Cameras: Does the Job
- Rear – 50-megapixel primary (f/1.88) + 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle (f/2.2)
- Front – 32-megapixel (f/2.45)
iQOO 15R’s camera system is headlined by a 50-megapixel primary sensor with an ultra-wide angle camera. iQOO smartphones aren’t usually known for their cameras, but it’s the brand’S new mid-flagship does a good job. The primary sensor takes photos with a lot of detail and balanced colours in good lighting. It is a good dynamic range, and it does ‘the balance between bright highlights and dark shadows’ that can be maintained in such.

Portrait photos are generally well-received, although in most cases with good background separation (although there is no dedicated telephoto sensor). However, there were times when edge detection had been a challenge for s.

Is it okay to shoot low-light but not exceptional photography,’ . Despite the camera’s ability to store usable details, images sometimes fail to provide detail. It applies to portrait photos taken in darkly lit conditions, too.
If you have an extended field of view, the ultra-wide-angle camera is useful when you need a wider field to see. But as with most phones in this price range, you will notice a significant drop in detail than shots taken using the main sensor.

The 32-megapixel selfie camera on the iQOO 15R makes sharp selfies with fairly accurate skin tones in daylight conditions, and is used as a front-facing face mirror for . It can sometimes oversharpen pictures, though it is a tendency to over-scrap. Pictures often fail to be clear in standard and portrait selfie shots, especially when they are under light.

Overall, iQOO 15R’s camera system is reliable for everyday photography (even though it does not push the boundaries of what a smartphone camera can do).
iQOO 15R Battery Life: Fantastic
- Battery Capacity – 7,600mAh
- Wired Charging – 100W
- Wireless Charging – No
- Included in the Box – Yes (100W)
But another part of the iQOO 15R is that it excels at battery life. With a battery of up to 7,600mAh (one that is one of the largest you’ll see in this segment), it has an extremely slim chassis inside its relatively thin body. How do I know that the phone is a good length of over – one day with moderate usage, in my experience? In lighter days, with messages, browsing and some streaming, it can travel into the second day easily without much trouble on a less challenging day.
Similarly impressive is the speed at charging of s. In about 48 minutes, the battery refills from 0 to 100 percent with support for 100W fast charging and until the “fully charged” notification appears. But this is surprisingly fast, even though it has so many s.
Thus, the iQOO 15R is sure to alleviate your battery anxiety, should you upgrade to it.
iQOO 15R Verdict
The iQOO 15R, which is the true “flagship killer” spirit of ‘s life-long transformational meaning that it takes raw speed, smoothness and stamina over doing everything at once. It feels consistently quick, it makes every interaction fluid and the battery life removes the usual anxiety associated with performance-heavy smartphones.
But it isn’t perfect, though s say. They don’t make the cameras groundbreaking but are reliable, and it doesn’s not a software experience without any unessential apps. None of them are big enough to ring alarm bells.
The iQOO 15R is one of the best-shelf recommendations for your priority, which keeps you fast, lasts long and handles everything you throw at it without complaint. OnePlus 15R (review) is its top rival, offering similar experience; the Vivo V70 will be better for photography enthusiasts due to its Zeiss optics.
