Microsoft’s Gaming Copilot AI Assistant is Coming to Current-Generation Xbox Consoles in 2026: Report

Microsoft is said to be bringing its Gaming Copilot AI assistant back to the current generation consoles this year. The tech giant, based in Redmond, said it would like to bring its gaming chatbot with artificial intelligence (AI) technology into more users and will be adding the tool within the Xbox Series S and the new Xbox series X. The public testing of Gaming Copilot has been a nearly nine months long period for gaming, and it is already available on several non-console platforms. A company executive also confirmed that Xbox Mode will be available to Windows 11 from April 2011.

Gaming Copilot AI Assistant Reportedly Coming to Xbox S|X

The revelations come from Sonali Yadav, Partner Group Product Manager at Microsoft (via GamesRadar), who revealed the company’s plans at Game Developers Conference (GDC). Yadav has reportedly said that Gaming Copilot will be introduced to the current-generation consoles later this year, making the announcement. In addition to this, the current generation consoles refer to the Xbox Series S|X launched in 2020.

Since May 2025, gaming copilot AI assistant has appeared in the news after Microsoft’s Xbox division announced that limited public beta testing of the chatbot was being tested. During the next few months, the AI tool was deployed to Windows 11, the Xbox mobile apps and the handheld ROG Xbox Ally series.

Interestingly, it is interesting that an AI-powered chatbot for gaming was not released on the console during initial run. But Microsoft may have wished to see the tool’s reception and improvements before it was deployed to the Xbox console, perhaps as well as making changes. In a statement the executive said “The team working on the AI chatbot received great feedback from gaming community.

If users can ask questions about the games they are playing, such as assistance for in-game missions, items and navigation after the Game Copilot AI is available on the Xbox Series S and the X Series x, it will be possible to ask them what their game was like. Apart from that, it can also recommend games based on the user’s playing history, answer questions about other games they have played and provide details of their account (including when to renew for Game Pass subscription).

Similarly, in a keynote session at the GDC Jason Ronald, Vice President of Xbox Gaming Devices & Ecosystem at Microsoft, said that Xbox mode will be available from next month to Windows 11. With a single game hub that displays multiple storefronts (including Steam, Epic Games Store and Xbox Game Pass), the feature introduces ‘new controller-first navigation interface’. There is also an option switcher for it that allows users to jump between multiple running games and apps directly.
