NASA to Launch EMIT Mission Aboard SpaceX to Study How Dust Particles Affect Earth: How to Watch Live Broadcast
A whole cosmic grit of data awaits you! On June 10, NASA is sending EMIT – Earth Surface Mineral Dust Source Investigation – to the ISS. This isn’t your hohum supply run; it’s dust battling against nature itself as the show: To understand desert dust over the Earth and its changes affecting our climate.
Let’s conjure an image of climate change being at the heart of desert sands. EMIT will then survey the mineral dust composition, wheeling it away from dry landscapes, tracking its voyage through the atmosphere, and disclosing its effects on Earth.
Piggybacking on SpaceX’s 25th resupply mission, EMIT will hitch a ride aboard the Dragon spacecraft, with the necessary supplies and scientific tools for the ISS crew. An airborne delivery service that carries over 4,500 lbs of cargo into orbit, this opens the stage for groundbreaking research that will redefine our understanding of Earth’s climate.
Mark that date! The 12th of June will witness a rendezvous in orbit. A new spacecraft will rendezvous and autonomously dock with the International Space Station on that day, attaching itself to the forward-facing port of the Harmony module. While the docking procedures are done largely by the computers, two veteran NASA astronauts Kjell Lindgren and Bob Hines will be onboard ISS, overseeing the operation.
Imagine desert winds blowing across barren regions, raising an angry storm of mineral dust. These dusts are more than an environmental nuisance; these absorbance are worthy of global climate change. The EMIT mission is set to understand technically how these airborne dust particles-traveling thousands of miles acting as tiny thermometers-will either warm or cool the atmosphere and surface of the world.
The space agency will broadcast live coverage of this mission.
Here are the key timings:
June 10
The launch coverage will begin at 10am EDT (7:30pm IST) on NASA TV and NASA website.
The launch sequence will begin at 10:22am EDT (7:52pm IST).
June 12
The coverage for Dragon docking will begin at 5am EDT (2:30pm IST)
Docking will happen at 6:20am EDT (3:50 pm IST).

Blast into discovery! This mission is more than just going to the International Space Station (ISS); it is delivering a scientific payload honed expertly to unlock the secrets of the cosmos–and of mankind. Imagine a scenario where immune cells age in space, while scientists on Earth work out how to reverse the aging process. How do wounds heal, meanwhile, when gravity has temporarily ceased to exist? Students are concocting a concrete alternative in space that will go a long way in helping with future establishments on the Moon and Mars. After spending some time docked at the ISS, this spacecraft returns with bags full of not only that research but the future as well.
