OpenAI Plans to Set Up Offices in Mumbai Bengaluru; Will Build AI Data Centre With Tata Group
OpenAI said it will open new offices in two more Indian cities later this year. It will be a part of the company’s expansion beyond OpenAI’S current base in New Delhi as it seeks to strengthen its presence in India. Furthermore, OpenAI is working with the Tata Group on constructing data centre capacity in India that will be AI-ready. OpenAI will be the first customer of Tata Consultancy Services’ HyperVault data centre business, with 100 megawatts of capacity under the partnership. Also, OpenAI will offer its Open AI Certification programmes in India starting with TCS and a newer version of the company’s name “OpenAI” (the acronym for open-independent association) is also planning to provide access to its programs.
ChatGPT maker confirmed plans to open new offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru later this year during AI Impact Summit 2026 in Delhi. The company already has an office in New Delhi, and it says new locations will “better serve users and partners in India”.

OpenAI Team Up With Tata Group to Build AI Infrastructure
According to OpenAI, India now has more than 100 million weekly ChatGPT users. The firm, which is working with the Tata Group to build an AI-ready data centre infrastructure in India. During this scheme, OpenAI will be the first customer of Tata Consultancy Services’ HyperVault data centre business from an initial scale of 100 megawatts and could grow to 1 gigawatt over time. According to OpenAI, this infrastructure will allow the most advanced models of Open AI to run safely in India.
Tata Group will also be deploying ChatGPT Enterprise across its employees in the coming years, starting with TCS staff. Additionally, TCS plans to use OpenAI’s Codex to standardise AI-native software development across teams using the framework of OpenI.
OpenAI also announced the expansion of its Open AI Certifications in India, with TCS becoming the first participating organisation outside USA. Certifications These certifications are designed to help professionals develop practical AI skills.
It also announced education partnerships with leading institutions such as the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, All India Institute for Medical Sciences, New Delhi, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, University of Petroleum and Energy Studies and Pearl Academy.
OpenAI recently joined hands with leading Indian companies like JioHotstar, Eternal, Pine Labs, Cars24, HCLTech, PhonePe, CRED, and MakeMyTrip.
