EA Reportedly Cancels Black Panther Game Shuts Down Developer Cliffhanger Games
Anything with a vibranium armor can’t yet be showcased. It is said that Electronic Arts have put their highly awaited Black Panther title, Project Rainier, on hold and have shuttered Cliffhanger Games, the studio in charge of bringing Wakanda to life. The cancellation has led to EA’s rescaling for the third time this year, thereby bringing about layoffs. The news comes in the wake of big cuts at Respawn Entertainment in April (famous for Star Wars Jedi) and the quiet cancellation of a new Titanfall entry, making one wonder what the fate of the ambitious projects of EA will be.
EA Cancels Black Panther Game
Panning for gold: The company shutters a studio and kills a project. Cut by cut, President Laura Miele,Êin an email obtained by IGN, spunÒthe cuts as a strategic realignment to sharpen our focus to channel creative energy on areas of greater promise for maximum growth.ÊThis provision allows the big gaming company to go big by risking small projects in hopes of landing on a few bets.
EA has the axe once again, sparing the public just how many were affected. Inside rumors suggest that the recent set of furor is not just limited to Cliffhanger Games; mobile and central teams are feeling the squeeze, too. Sources confirm that, while the exact numbers remain in the shadows, the massacre is smaller, though nothing close to the April carnage that sent hundreds-btw around 300 and 400 people, as estimated, among them at least a hundred Respawn developers-being cast adrift.
The company, following a past precedent, is attempting to redeploy effected employees into open positions within its network of studios. It parallels an earlier time when, after the launch of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, dozens of BioWare team members were given new homes within the company as a result of studio restructuring.
It echoed with heavy reflections of hard choices: “These decisions cut deep. They impact colleagues – mentors, friends – with whom we’ve shared laughter, challenges, and triumphs. Our commitment is to support them fully, actively seeking opportunities within EA, where we’ve previously helped talented individuals find their next chapter.”
EA Doubles Down: Beloved Franchises, Galactic Adventures, and Sci-Fi Epics Spearhead Future
While Electronic Arts is aggressively narrowing its focus by working with franchises that define it, still consider the adrenaline-pumping thrills of Battlefield, the limitless life simulation of The Sims, Skate’s anti-gravity stunts, and the competitive thrills of Apex Legends. But there are even more thrills awaiting you; your interstellar adventures await Motive Studios’ Iron Man and Respawn’s further forays into the Star Wars galaxy with Jedi 3. And for space operatic thrills, BioWare stands ready to raise his next Mass Effect chapter. The road ahead in EA gaming is a synergy of legendary icons and bold new frontiers.
Cliffhanger Games Shut Down
The gaming world was awakened in 2023 with the announcement of a Black Panther game, a single-player, third-person action-adventure epic. Spearheading the project is Cliffhanger Games, a newly minted Seattle-based studio described as a “triple-A development powerhouse.” With the two studios working hand in hand, Wakanda’s very own vibranium mystique is being channeled into interactive art.
“Imagine yourself donning the vibranium-laced boots of Wakanda’s guard. Our mission is to create a dynamic and ever-changing world whereyouare the Black Panther, feeling the weight of the mantle and the exhilarating thrill of protecting a nation.”
Cliffhanger Games, headed by Kevin Stephens, an alumnus of Monolith Productions (creators ofMiddle-Earth: Shadow of War), met a grim fate much like the prior institution when Warner Bros. locked both studios just months apart.
“Wakanda isn’t just a setting; instead, it’s a living, breathing world full of stories yet to be told,” said Stephens. “We are making an epic love letter to Black Panther more than a game, where players can lose themselves in the splendor and mystery of Wakanda.”
The Titanfall universe, a bit smaller now. EA cut hundreds of jobs last month and wiped away the promising “R7,” an extraction shooter by Titanfall in the development phase at a Respawn subsidiary. The cancellation has left a smoking crater where a new incarnation of the mech-enabled franchise was supposed to be built.
With its less-than-stellar launch, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has reportedly caused a storm at BioWare this past year. Besides the reception for the game, there was some considerable internal reshuffling with a few dozen employees moved around within EA. Tragically, sources claim about two dozen were let go, an unfortunate reminder of what is really at stake in the present-day gaming industry.
