Sony Announces Horizon Hunters Gathering a Live Service Co-Op Action Game for PS5 and PC
The next project, announced by Guerilla Games, is Horizon Hunters Gathering, a co-op action title set in the universe of Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West. Players will hunt beastly machines from the Horizon games to earn rewards through PvE multiplayer title, which allows players to hunt for a machine that is not in the game’s range. Eventually, PS5 and PC will be released with Horizon Hunters Gathering on the platform; there is also a closed playtest planned for the end of February.
In a statement that Guerrilla calls calling the game ’new chapter in the Horizon universe’, Hunters Gathering is based on the studio’s multiplayer experience from its work on Killzone franchise. The tactical co-op action game Horizon Hunters Gathering is a series of as many as three players compete on “challenging and replayable” hunts to kill machines in Horizon Hunts gathering. The combat of the game is “tactical, reactive and deeply skill-based,” Guerrilla said in a statement.
The studio detailed combat, modes, world and story of the game in an accompanying announcement video. During the playtest, Guerrilla introduced three playable characters that will be available at this year’s play test, but the studio said “the game’ll have a roster of heroes which will grow.”

Horizon Hunters Gathering Features
The announcement shows three hunters who have different skills and playstyles from Tank, Support and Tactician classes. combat based on the use of melee and ranged weapons, players will have to work tactically together to destroy machines in battle focused on machine targeting. There’s a system of weapons upgrade and other “rogue-lite” benefits that allows players to power up on each hunt.
Horizon Hunters Gathering will launch with four maps, each of which contain the titular Hunter’s gathering at the centre where heroes can tweak their loadout, upgrade their gear and team up for the next hunt. The gathering also allows players to customize their own campsite and hang out with friends at the event.
In the first playtest, there will be two game modes of gameplay Machine Incursion (where players perform waves of machines culminating in a boss fight); and Cauldron Descent (which hunters take on extending their multi-stage trial inside scauldra) test inside an caulatorium. The same thing as Machine Incursion also has a Battle Royale-style shrinking play area for machine incuration. They’ll take player feedback from the playtest to develop both modes,” Guerrilla said, adding that “we will be able to evolve these two modes.”
Horizon Hunters Gathering Playtest
Horizon Hunters Gathering also will have an independent or co-op narrative campaign based on the story that is available in both solo and in copping. Guerrilla said that the game’s story will be part of the canon on the Horizon universe.
In a statement, Sony and Guerrilla confirmed that Horizon Hunters Gathering will support cross-play between PS5 and PC as well as cross progression when users are logged in and save their game using the same PSN account. Toward the end of February 2012, users on PC and PS5 will be able to use a “small-scale” closed playtest for PlayStation Beta Program members who are part of the program.
A launch date for Horizon Hunters Gathering is not yet set, and there has been no release date of Horizon Hunt hunter. This is the game to be part of PlayStation’s live service push that has produced mixed results in the past, with the match coming from . Helldivers 2 was a hit Sony-backed multiplayer game, but the company’s hero shooter Concord failed to make ‘necessary dent and was offline within weeks of release.
Sony also cancelled several live service projects, including multiplayer games in The Last of Us and God Of War universes. Bungie’s extraction shooter, Marathon, is also scheduled to be released in March by the PlayStation parent as well as a release of Bunge’.
