Sony Said to Be Backing Away From Launching Its Single-Player Games on PC

Sony could apparently reverse its first-party release on PC and return to PlayStation exclusive releases. The parent of the PlayStation has recently ported many of its exclusive single-player games to PC in recent years. The firm has also released its new live service games on PS5 and PC at the same time. That might mean it is reverting to its platform exclusive strategy, at least for its single-player titles.

Sony Could Stop Launching Games on PC

During the latest episode of the Triple Click podcast, Jason Schreier said Sony could be “backing away” from starting their console exclusive games on PC and returning to its “only PlayStation” strategy.

The way they do it is ‘live service games are coming to PC’,’ but the feeling I am getting is that they don’t put their own console stuff (traditional single-player items on PC) or other exclusives.

Schreier went on to add that Insomniac Games upcoming action-adventure game, Marvel’s Wolverine, may never release on PC.

Wolverine is coming in September if they don’t, even unless they do. His comment on that won’t be in PC; That’s going to only be on PlayStation 5, he said.

Schreier said he “wouldn’t be surprised” when asked whether the game would never launch on PC.

He said ‘If it does, you have a very good idea of what that is and you need – at least for the long-term future he said.’ Then there was ‘A PlayStation s play it (at least indefinitely).

According to Schreier, Sony was ‘going to stop putting its tentpole first-party single-player games like The Last of Us 2 on PC’. He added that Sony’s PC releases were never so successful to start with, he said.

Sony’s PC Release Strategy

Despite Xbox’s full multi-platform transition in the last two years, Sony has released some of its first single-player games after a delay following their PS5 launch. It usually waits a year or two for the company to release its PS5 exclusives on PC. The PC version of games such as Insomniac’s Spider-Man series, Santa Monica Studio’Santy Studio’s God of War reboot series and Naughty Dog’ – The Last of Us 1 and 2 have been released for the first time.

But a few single-player PS5 exclusives such as Game of the Year winner Astro Bot and PS4 launch title Demon’s Souls have never been released on any other platform, including PlayStation 5 launch titles Demom’S Soul. PlayStation 5 exclusively launches single-player Sony games such as Saros and Marvel’s Wolverine this year. Housemarque’s bullet-hit action game Saros will launch on April 30, Wolverine is coming to PS5 on September 15 and the bullet hell action Game Warlore (left) Will be released in October 30.

Sony, however, does not stop bringing its live services games to other platforms on day one. Helldivers 2 was released in 2024 on PS5 and PC at the same time, and appeared on Xbox Series S/X last year. A March 5, 2026 release of Bungie’s Marathon will be available on PlayStation5, PC, and Xbox Series S/X platforms.
