WhatsApp Plus Paid Subscription Reportedly in Development With Additional Customisation Options Up to 20 Pinned Chats
WhatsApp is said to be working on a new premium subscription plan for its consumer app that could add more customisation and convenience features when users choose to pay. WhatsApp Plus, which is said to be under development for both Android and iOS versions of the messaging platform, reportedly has been proposed as an alternative tier. Though this means the core messaging experience is likely to be free, it could also provide additional tools designed to personalise the interface and improve chat management using paid plan.

WABetaInfo’s X post says that WhatsApp Plus may be very focused on visual customisation, as per an. Subscribing users may reportedly switch the app theme, change accent colours across the interface and select from a variety of other app icons. There are also several colour options that may allow users to personalise the look and feel of the app, with around 14 new icon styles said to be in development.
The subscription tier could also increase WhatsApp’s chat pinning limit on WhatsApp. At the moment, users can pin up to three conversations but WhatsApp Plus subscribers may pin as many as 20 chats – meaning 17 more pinned conversations are beyond the current limit.
Similarly, subscribers may also receive exclusive ringtones designed specifically for WhatsApp. Each tone is likely to have a unique style and help users easily distinguish between WhatsApp calls that are coming in, and notifications generated by other apps.
In addition, the report also suggests that “more subscriber-only features may be available over time.” It is said WhatsApp Plus users could be able to get exclusive sticker packs that are not available for free users. A few message responses may also be a more immersive and interactive response to some messages, which could make conversations more dynamic.
The report was added to WhatsApp’s core functions are expected to remain free for everyone even if the subscription launches, and it is clear that WhatsApp will still be free. A user is alleged to be allowed to continue sending and receiving messages, make voice and video calls, share media, participate in group chats or access privacy and security features for free.
Whatsapp has not yet confirmed pricing or said when it will launch a new plan for the service. This report said ‘Features associated with WhatsApp Plus may also change before the company decides to launch the more popular subscription, which is already available on WhatsApp+.
