Xiaomis HyperOS 4 Update Said to Be in Development With ‘Significant Changes’ Leica-Inspired Colour Palette
The next Android 17 operating system (OS) is said to be a version of the HyperOS 4 that Xiaomi is believed to develop as its iteration of this year’s OS. Earlier leaks around the OS have now started appearing online as early as possible. A tipter has said HyperOS 4 could make’significant visual changes’, not just deeper system-level improvements. The new update is expected to bring a fresh design language across the user interface (UI), with the brand also developing an Leica colour palette that could be added in some models.
HyperOS 4 Could Bring Major Visual and System Changes
HyperOS 4 may have “a major redesign of the core user interface” according to tipster Smart Pikachu (translated from Chinese) on Weibo. This may change from Xiaomi’s current design language to a more modern and cohesive visual style, which it could be replaced with. Leak likewise mentions that the system’s UI also integrates an inspired colour palette from Leica to be used in its leak.
But this could also give a more high-end visual identity. This would be an extension of the Leica partnership beyond the optics system for colour science, which high-end Xiaomi models come with when the tipster’s claim is true if it turns out to be true. Moreover, Xiaomi users on social media have asked for a “Lock Screen Island” feature where it may be used to manage notifications without blocking custom wallpapers. But if the company will respond to this request, it is not known whether or not.
HyperOS 4, reportedly includes deep under-thehood changes, other than visual improvements. In previous reports, the company is removing legacy MIUI code and writing core system applications for HyperOS 4 using RUST programming language to write Core System Applications. It’s likely that this will be in the Beta testing phase of August, when it is expected to enter into a beta testing stage for .
However, no details of when the Android 17-based OS will be rollout are available. Xiaomi announced HyperOS 3 in September 2025 as a context-specific hypervisor for the first time, with Hyper OS 3. Several older handsets have received an over-the-air (OTA) update to the new OS, while the company’s flagship Xiaomi 17 series runs out of the box.
The brand launched the HyperOS 3 global beta programme days after its launch, allowing users worldwide to try out the new features and improvements before it was released for public use. Xiaomi could launch HyperOS 4 in September if the same timeline is followed this year, with its beta programme starting a few days later.
