In a recent leak, it was reported that developer 4A Games and publisher Deep Silver were “preparing to announce the next Metro game at ‘a small Xbox event on April 16′”.

The revelation will likely help to explain the setting, story and characters of Metro 2039. This is the fourth mainline entry in the Metro series after Metro 2033, Metro Last Light and Metro Exodus (all about Artyom and his allies in a post-apocalptic Russia) which tells the story of ArtYoM and their alliers. It is based on Dmitry Glukhovsky’s Metro novels and the series follows it. Glukhovsky has said the game will be “darker” than its predecessors, while 4A Games has not yet released any details of Metro 2039.

A link for Metro 2039’s official website was also shared by 4A Games, where users can sign up to receive a reminder of the game’ll be revealed.

Metro Exodus, the last mainline entry in the series, was released in 2019 for PC and PS4, as well as Xbox One. A PS5 and Xbox Series S/X version of the game was later ported to an Enhanced Edition of it, as well as for its original owners. In the series, Metro Exodus resembled Metro Last Light and was more expansive and open-world hub levels than linear levels seen in previous games of this series (see below).
