Two new features for Premium users are said to be being tested by YouTube, which is reportedly designed to improve the way videos are watched and controlled. The platform is now said to be testing an Auto Speed mode and a new On-the-go control interface. They say both will make watching content easier and more convenient, especially for people who spend a lot of time on the app on their phones. Among YouTube’s experimental program, these features are part of the company’Story experiment where subscribers can test out early tools before a wider rollout as the firm continues to refine the viewing experience.

A second feature, on-the-go features also in the report ‘The most important thing is that it has to be an on timer. It is aimed at high audio-heavy content like podcasts and talk videos. Using it reduces visual elements to simplify interface, making playback controls easier to use when you are moving and is also easy to work with the control of play back.

In Playback, users can manually activate On-the-go mode by opening the settings menu to select More and then selecting Premium controls. It can also be prompted by YouTube to automatically prompt this mode when it detects that your phone has been moving for about 60 seconds while a video is playing.

The feature description says On-the-go is only for Android devices, but the report claims it can also be used on iOS as well. Both features were first noticed late last month and are now available to more users.

YouTube hasn’t said whether these features will be available to desktop users. This current test period runs until April 27, when Google is likely to decide whether to roll them out more widely or drop them.
